                       The position supports the project managers in the execution of projects and studies by working with the project team to ensure competent discipline personnel are assigned to the projects. This position is responsible for the management of recruitment, training, development and evaluation of discipline personnel to ensure long term technical objectives are met. The Incumbent promotes and coordinates the optimal use of  Engineering’s technical expertise in all engineering functions.
Daily Responsibilities: 
Leads the efforts of Mechanical Equipment Design (Static and Rotating), Piping technology and standards Administration. 
Executes and assigns personnel on projects assignments 
Directs the development of documents in the area of Mechanical Equipment standards, Mechanical Work procedures, and Piping Technology standard 
Provides assistance and expertise to the Unit Head of PME 
Talent/Competency development of the direct personnel 
Represents the Mechanical Group on Global activities 
Works/communicates with external vendors on a regular basis and external customers 
Works/communicates with external Engineering Professionals and Experts

QUALIFICATION

 

A Bachelor of Science or Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree is required (or equivalent engineering experience) with a minimum of 15 years’ experience in the Mechanical area.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Support the design and construction of a variety of new and renovations to existing industrial, manufacturing, and office facilities
  • Perform, check and supervise pipe stress calculations
  • Assist in identification of critical lines requiring pipe stress analysis, review line list to ensure adequate level of criticality is defined
  • Shall have extensive experience in performing stress analysis and flexibility calculations for various systems such as: pump piping, reciprocating pump/compressor piping, large storage tank piping, frp piping, jacketed piping, psv piping, large diameter (36” ~ 72”) piping, underground piping, high temperature (creep range) piping, low temperature cryogenic piping, etc.
  • Prepare calculations to address various issues such as Seismic, Wind, slug flow, mixed phase flow, water hammer, cyclic service, category m, differential settlement, psv thrust force, etc.
  • Perform calculations for spring supported equipment
  • Select expansion joints when necessary and approved, determine movements, prepare requisitions, datasheets, and review related vendor drawings
  • Select springs/struts/snubbers when necessary, determine movements/loads, prepare spring/strut/snubber schedule, requisitions, and review related vendor drawings
  • Perform reinforcement evaluation at pipe supports and branch connections
  • Perform simplified evaluation of vibration-related issues
  • Ensure compliance with various ASME and API codes and standards
  • Present 30% 60% 90% model reviews to stakeholders and multi-discipline teams

 

QUALIFICATION

 
     Mechanical Engineering or related field
     4-8 years of experience in performing stress analysis and flexibility evaluations
     Experience with FEA tools such as Caesar II, NozzlePro, FE/Pipe or other similar programs
     Basic CAD skills preferred

  • Perform FEA evaluation for evaluation of stresses at nozzles, or for determining user calculated SIFs, using NozzlePro, FE/Pipe or other FEA software
  • Develop client technical specifications related to piping flexibility analysis, piping components, fabrication, testing, and NDE, etc.
  • Serve as a lead piping engineer for assigned projects
  • Lead piping engineer is responsible for preparing and managing a schedule for piping engineering activities and deliverables, preparing estimates, preparing scope of services, preparing effort hour forecasts, monitoring changes on the project, managing the piping engineering budget and schedule, provide progress reporting, provide quantity trends and monitor quantities, coordinate with various disciplines, participate in 3D model reviews
  • Coordinate with process and mechanical disciplines to determine process data and any special process requirements or equipment operation modes
  • Coordinate with piping discipline to determine the stress analysis due dates to support isometric issue schedule
  • Coordinate with material control and piping/projects disciplines to determine need dates on site for various piping engineering owned items, based on construction work packages, to support timely delivery to field/shop
  • Coordinate with structural groups to ensure loads are being effectively communicated and incorporate structural input on support stiffness and support requirements
  • Provide guidance, supervision and mentorship to less experienced engineers
  • Prepare technical presentations for the advancement of technical knowledge of the piping engineering group
  • Ensure adherence to department work instructions and technical guidelines
  • Assist in the development and upkeep of department work instructions and technical guidelines
  • Identify improvement opportunities in the department work flow
  • Consult with department manager and other senior personnel on technical problems, staffing requirements, and schedule issues relating to project commitments
  • May require adjusted scheduled based on project needs, may also require working overtime.
  • Occasional travel to field / project sites / other offices may be required
  • Develop and mentor less experienced design staff
